A little bit of hair, a little bit of shirts.

Last night, my husband and I decided that we were going to give one another haircuts.  His hadn't seen scissors since this past August and, other than a few clips of the bangs, neither had mine.

The woman that we live with offered to let us use her haircutting materials.  She brought me Home Haircutting Made Easy, a step-by-step book put out by the editors of Consumer Guide.  The pages were well used and full of posed pictures from the early 80's.

We wet our hair; we brought the folding chair into the bathroom and set it on the tile floor.  I was first.  Jordan combed my hair and then cut it in a straight line across my back.  We trimmed up a few stray strands and my haircut was finished.

We got the step-by-step guide for Jordan's cut.  The book said to separate the hair into sections; we followed the picture exactly.  I took half inch sections between my fingers and began cutting away at the five month long project.  Fifteen minutes later, we hadn't made much progress.

We borrowed the woman's clippers, put them on the one inch setting, and Jordan showed me how his father did it.  I tried to imitate his instructions.  With two major cowlicks and a still full head of hair, it wasn't an easy task; I couldn't do it.  Jordan positioned his glasses so that they covered only one eye and began shaving the opposite side of his head.

We went to the hair salon first thing this morning.  The hairdresser said that it was a good thing we stopped when we did.  After twenty minutes of work, his hair was the length we intended it to be last night.

During Jordan's cut, the hairdresser told me that I looked familiar.  I said that I thought she looked like my sister, so perhaps I reminded her of a sibling as well; I am related to some people with red hair and blue eyes, she replied.  Jordan and I had discussed the red tint of my hair earlier this week and I thought it odd that she would notice it too.  I suppose it's her job.

As we were leaving the salon, she invited me to come back soon and get my beautiful red hair cut.  Apparently I'm a redhead.

This is our after.  And just in case you were wondering, we make these shirts.  Trust me, this picture doesn't do them justice.  They look sweet, they're handmade, and they're very reasonably priced.  We are taking orders, so if you want us to make you one, just leave a comment below and I'll get you more details!
