Cloud Mobile | A How-To

This past weekend, I decided to finally make Aubryn a mobile for her crib. I've been experimenting for the past six months and never really liked the finished product. I've been a little obsessed with clouds lately and decided a cloud mobile might just solve our mobile woes. And let me tell you, I was quite happy with the results. So happy in fact, that I decided to share those results with you in the form of a how-to. It's simple, quick and inexpensive. Three of my favorite things.

Materials needed: White and blue cardstock, cotton balls, embroidery hoop (I used the inner hoop), needle, thread, scissors, and tape.

Step 1: Use a pencil to draw three or four clouds on white card stock and cut them out. I used one sheet of paper for each cloud and ended up making three because my embroidery hoop was a bit large.

Step 2: Arrange the clouds how you like them and tape them together. Then tape your cloud arrangement to the embroidery hoop. I used more heavy duty tape to attach the clouds to the hoop because I wanted to make sure it was secure.

Step 3: Draw your raindrops and cut them out. I created a shape that I liked and then used that as a pattern for the rest so all were the same shape and size. Then I  added a bit of variety by using a few different shades of blue paper to cut the drops out from.

Step 4: Poke a small hole, just big enough to put the thread through, at the point of each drop. Thread them onto the string, attaching each one with a double knot. To attach the cotton balls, simple poke through the middle of each with your thread and needle. No knotting necessary.

Step 5: Attach each string of drops (I made seven) to the clouds by poking through at the desired point, knotting the string and taping them onto the top (or the backside) of the clouds so that the end of the string is unseen.

Step 6: Using a more heavy duty string (I used yarn), attach four strings at equal distances from one another around the hoop. Knot the ends of the four together strings together and tie a fifth string around the knot. Attach the end of the fifth string to a hook and hang the mobile from the ceiling.

Finally: Attach the end of the fifth string to a hook, hang the mobile above your babe's bed and enjoy! Because you know they will.

Happy crafting! And let me know if you have any questions; I'm always happy to answer them.
