my joy.

It’s been a week and a half since our little girl came home with us. Twelve days since we welcomed her into this world.

But it feels like it’s been so much longer. It feels like she’s always been with us. It’s difficult to remember what life was like before she came and I can’t imagine life without her.

She has such a strong spirit, and is the sweetest little soul I’ve ever met. She is sensitive and still and she knows what she wants. She is beautiful, inside and out, and she is only twelve days old.

Sometimes I can’t believe she’s ours. That we made her. That we brought her into this world. And that we will have her for eternity. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this new role of motherhood is something that I’ll never lose: I will always be hers and she will always be mine.

It’s been amazing to see the changes that she’s made in our lives: the sweet spirit she’s brought into our home, how she’s taught us how to be better people, better parents, better spouses. She’s brought so much love and light and hope into our lives.

In French, Aubryn means my joy. And that’s how I knew we had the right name; nothing else would really do. Those two words describe her perfectly and they always will.
